Peace Through Football in Michika
When the Joint Military Task Force recaptured Michika, many residents returned, but peace was fragile. Distrust was widespread and communities were pointing fingers.
After assessments, ECF ran a six-month pilot in five wards, supported by NERI, a USAID programme run by Creative Associates. Sixteen football clubs joined a peace football competition and peace meetings.
Immediately after the recapture, there was a fragile peace and distrust within the communities.
Partners then supported an expansion to 32 clubs. Over seven months, more than 1,000 youths across the 16 wards of Michika LGA took part.
