Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East in Heretic, plus other modern women who break the horror game
Narrative
Two young nuns find themselves in a game of cat and mouse in the home of a strange man. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East were raised Mormon, so they were able to provide valuable insight into the religion while making the film.
Both are no longer Mormons
The end credits indicate that no generative artificial intelligence was used in the production of the film. Featured in Movie Reviews: Heretic | The Greatest Christmas Show Ever (2024).
Heretic is as unpredictable as it is confusing
The Air I Breathe, written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, starring The Hollies. While the film keeps you on your toes for most of its footage, the plot begins to fade in the final act.
Unfortunately, the plot is the film’s weakest point
Hugh Grant gives a standout performance, with Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East also shining in their roles. The director, cinematographer and set designer also deserve credit as they gradually immerse you in the growing madness of Grant’s character and his creepy house.
The climax left me a little disappointed as I was expecting something deeper
The tension and mystery build beautifully at the beginning, but around the two-thirds mark, it starts to unravel. Still, Heretic is an excellent horror film in its own right: entertaining, but not as memorable as I had hoped.
